With only 4 units, Stef Surf is a lush, tropical, private oasis within a 2 minute walk to the calm waters of Potrero Beach! El Tucan is the end unit within Stef Surf giving you even more privacy. This unique development is inspired by nature and guests feel like they are entering a jungle, even in the middle of the dry season!

El Tucan has beautiful outdoor spaces to enjoy the views and sounds of the property. It is a 2 story unit with the bedrooms located on the 2nd floor, each with their own private outdoor area. The master bedroom has an en suite bathroom and floor to ceiling 14 foot windows with sliding glass doors that can be opened to hear the sounds of the waves breaking on the beach at night, and the beautiful birds singing in the morning! You will also hear howler monkeys! The second bedroom also has it's own private outdoor space with a daybed to sit and relax while enjoying a book or just listening to the waves, the sounds of nature and enjoying the beautiful view. This condo provides everything you need for a great day at the beach including beach chairs, umbrella, wagon, tent for shade, coolers, noodles and floaties.

The main floor of this bright, colorful condo has an open living/dining area, a brand new queen Murphy cabinet bed, new 1/2 bathroom, kitchen, and laundry room. There is a large outdoor area off of the kitchen to relax and enjoy the outdoors. There is a table for outdoor dining where you can sip on a cold beverage while cooking on the outdoor grill. Another outdoor area has 2 beautiful Costa Rican hammocks to spend the afternoons lounging away among the tropical plants while the outdoor ceiling fans keep you comfortable! Each outdoor area has it's own outdoor ceiling fan/light combination. The living area and bedrooms all have their own air conditioning units and ceiling fans.

There is a large, beautiful pool with a jacuzzi and multiple seating areas. There is plenty of shade in the pool area with all of the lush vegetation and a palapa and bar area where guests can gather and share stories about their Costa Rican adventures!

El Tucan Stef Surf is located in Surfside/Playa Potrero. A small yet growing charming beach town with great restaurants, bars and grocery shopping within walking distance. There are other beautiful beaches within just a few minutes drive including Playa Penca and Playa Flamingo with it's brand new upscale marina.

The owners of El Tucan Stef Surf have a membership at the Costa Rica Sailing Center within a 10 minute walk down the beach! There you can enjoy half price rentals on kayaks, SUPS, and beach gear, along with discounts on boat rentals, lessons, and tours at the Sailing Center; discounted yoga classes at the Costa Rica Yoga Center (located in the Sailing Center) and 10% off at Hemingways - the chill, beautiful outdoor restaurant right on the beach adjacent to it all!   Pain point: 5 days before arrival we received twice wrong arrival instructions about the house.
  Apparently software issue... if I did not pushed a lot ot we will not get this house ... be careful

  We had a great time! Great location easy to walk to restaurants and grocery store. Just a short walk to the beach. Perfect layout with great private outdoor spaces off each bedroom and 2 common outdoor spaces. The third bathroom on the main floor was a plus. Landscaping gave extra privacy and made it feel like we were in the jungle. Tony was super helpful and great to work with!

  The property was great. I highly recommend it. They provide a beach wagon and chairs. The black sand beach is only a short walk away and it's hardly busy. EVER. Felt like our own beach for a majority of the trip. When you arrive there is a lockbox to get the key to the gate and key to your front door. The unit shares a nice pool with 3 other units. You need the key to get out of the gate which was strange. This made checkout confusing. The lockbox out front was gone and I couldn't leave my keys in the unit because you need a key to get out the front gate.
  
  The listing referenced a QR code that would get us discounts on equipment rentals and a local restaurant but they didn't provide it. I reached out to management and asked for it and by the time they responded with the QR code, we were half way through our stay and missed out on some savings. Not a huge deal, but if you offer something, you should provide it.
  
  If you're planning on doing some remote work, be aware that the unit WIFI here is pretty limited. Thankfully I didn't need to do much or that could have been an issue.
  
  All in all. Fantastic place to stay. Close to the beach, 9 minute drive to Playa Flamingo, shared pool, hammocks, private porch for each room. Absolutely wonderful.

  My family and I really enjoyed our stay at Playa Potrero. This is a less visited beach, which was perfect for us. It’s beautiful, not crowded and doesn’t have large waves because it’s in a bay. It’s easy to drive to other beaches, although traffic can be very slow moving ( but that’s Costa Rica). The condo itself is a short 2-3 minute walk to the beach. It’s equipped with everything you need, including a beach wagon, beach chairs & umbrellas, a cooler and even bug spray. The kitchen is very usable, with all the things you need and sharp knives! There is a washer and dryer, which was awesome for us (you don’t have to overpack or take home dirty clothes). All the rooms are spacious and the master is large and tasteful. There is a spiral staircase to get upstairs, which is not my favorite, but not a huge obstacle either.
  Make sure to check your email close to getting to the property, because they send you the information of how to get in shortly before your arrival.
  There are people that can assist you that you can call if needed, but there is not “office”.
  Overall, we highly recommend this place. It was a great price when we stayed (in early/mid January). And there is plenty to do in the area.
  
  One important detail of the area— if you are traveling north to some other beaches etc (Playa de la Coco or Playa Hermosa)... gps will try to take you on a long roundabout journey.... But, if you have a rental, there is a river that you can drive through!! It’s by the Congo Trail... all the locals do so and it saves about an hour in driving, depending on where you’re going. Look at a map and you will see there is a much shorter route... you can type in Nuevo Colon, and then your next destination once you’re there. It didn’t work for us any other way with Waze or Google Maps.

  This was our first time in Costa Rica. Stef Surf was a great place to stay. It was located about a block from the ocean and a couple of blocks from some great restaurants. Our host, Tony Gonzalez, was awesome and helped us whenever we needed something.

  Nestled within the Surf Side Community, this picturesque property offers a tropical oasis experience. With four units connected like duplexes, a shared pool creates a serene atmosphere. The friendly groundskeeper and his assistant are always ready to assist.
  
  The road leading to the property is unpaved, so caution is advised. The beach is a short walk away–turn left, then right, then left again, and you're there. The dark sand may stick to you, but it's soft. We had the beach to ourselves most days. Not the greatest beach.
  
  The unit could use some updates, kitchen sink hardware is loose and the stove vent goes nowhere. The fridge is in good condition, but shelves are missing on the inside of the door. Bedrooms and bathrooms are well-appointed, and towels are plentiful.
  
  Our host, Tony, was exceptional. He promptly responded to our questions and offered suggestions through WhatsApp.
  
  Overall, the property provided a comfortable stay for our family. With its amenities and proximity to stunning beaches, it made for an unforgettable vacation.

  Property was perfect for us. Location is good and the property was clean and grounds well maintained.
  The mattress in the second bedroom needs replacing - it has seen better days.
  Check in information should have been received earlier - or at the very least a confirmation 72 to 48 hours in advance that all is well and when we would be receiving the information. Less than 24 hours prior to check-in had us concerned. Tony was responsive after check-in - through whatsapp.

  Our family of four loved our rental! The caretaker, Francisco, was absolutely amazing and friendly - we came to look forward to our daily talks. The house had everything we needed for our visit. The house was only a five minute walk to the beach - while we visited many of the beaches during our stay, our favorite was Potrero beach as it was less crowded and convenient to us. We would start the day on the beach for sunrise and end the day on the beach for sunset. The house is close to the markets and restaurants. Our host from Krain, Tony, was an absolute gem - he helped us arrange excursions and gladly answered questions we had about Costa Rica. We had a mixup with our rental car and Tony was more than happy to help us with our situation. We would 150% stay at this property again.

  Overall our stay was very nice. We had a few issues but Krain was fairy quick to respond AND they refunded us one night stay for the inconveniences. Francisco, the grounds keeper was friendly and helpful. Location was great. Pool was small with no real "tanning" spots but still very nice. Our unit needs some minor repairs and the beds were too hard for us but again, overall we would consider staying at Stef Surf again. Really liked the location of our specific unit, El Tucan.
